Daniel Day-Lewis is a film God. After seeing Nine today, I realise that he is one of the most talented people I have ever seen in my life, and anyone would be doing themselves proud to emulate him. Not only is he a terrific actor (There Will Be Blood, anyone?) but evidently he can sing aswell, though his songs were decidedly sub-standard. Plus he is one of only two actors who has ever made me cry, which he did in The Crucible. (The other was Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, which I’m sure none of you were wondering). And he’s Irish, sort of.

The film itself was really good, and the songs were mostly top-drawer. And congrats to Fergie for what was by far and away the best number. It also won the Conor award for Most Makeup On A Living Person, as there is a very slim chance that there is any makeup left in the United States that wasn’t on Sophia Loren when she was filming.
